State road crews closed another section of State Road 262 where roadside elevation sank 18 inches and a guardrail was lost.
Barricades have been placed at Huseman Road in Ohio County preventing drivers from traveling north on the state road.
INDOT recently closed S.R. 262 at a slide three miles south of U.S. 50 in Dearborn County-prohibiting southbound travel. The two locations with falling slopes are approximately two miles apart. A third slide area located between the two closures is also being monitored.
Motorists are advised to detour around the S.R. 262 closure via U.S. 50 and S.R. 56.
Officials said heavy rains and flooding contributed to the unstable conditions.
The state is retaining a specialty contractor to stabilize slopes through a process called soil nailing. Work at the first site begins in two or three weeks. Once the soil has been “nailed”, INDOT can proceed with pavement repairs.
