MILAN – The Milan ’54 Hoosiers Museum has been awarded money to help restore a historic barbershop in town.
Rising Sun Regional Foundation provided a 30-thousand dollar grant toward the rehabilitation of the museum’s “Nichols Barber Shop.”
The barbershop which is adjacent to the museum will be restored to a fully operational and historically accurate 1950’s barbershop decorated with memorabilia from Milan’s 1954 Championship and the movie “Hoosiers.”
“Barber shops in the 1950’s played such an important part of community life in Milan and was accurately portrayed as such in the movie” said Marianne Wiggers, President of Milan 54, Inc.
“This will be a fantastic interactive addition to the museum. We feel truly blessed that the Rising Sun Regional Foundation has been such a strong supporter of the Milan ‘54 Hoosiers Museum.”
Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year.
