(Ripley County, IN) – Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Batchelor and his K9 partner Dex won two awards last week at the 12th annual On Point K9 Academy multistate competition in Scottsville, Kentucky.

The first award was in the Hard Dog/Fast Dog event, which takes place in an open field with a decoy wearing a bite suit.

The handler deploys the K9, and judges score how fast the dog gets to the decoy and how hard he bites or hits the decoy.

The second trophy, the Gene England Award, goes to the handler who goes above and beyond to make their community, fellow officers, and their K9 partner safer while having an outstanding, positive, and professional attitude.

Teams from Lawrenceburg, Aurora, and other parts of Indiana, along with Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia also participated.
