Milan, In. — The Ripley County community is mourning the loss of Clay Hall. Hall passed away on November 30 at Dillsboro Ross Manor at the age of 90.
Hall enlisted in the Navy at 16 and served in World War II on the USS Mt. Baker, a munitions ship in the Pacific Theater. Hall kept in contact with shipmates up to his death.
After moving to Ripley County in 1950 he became a full-time farmer and worked at various factories. In 1965 he got a job as a machinist at Cummins Engine Company and retired in 1985 as a manufacturing engineering. He worked on the farm until the age of 82.
Hall was also instrumental in the development of the Southeastern Indiana Vocational School in Versailles, served on the Milan School Board and the Ripley County Board of Elections.
Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hope Baptist Church with a memorial service to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW Scholarship Fund in his honor.
