Richard John Raymond Anthony Moorman, age 86, of Lawrenceville, Indiana, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 2, 1939, in Batesville, Indiana, Richard (Dick) was the son of Albert and Kathryn (Fritz) Moorman. He graduated from Batesville High School with the Class of ’57. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army before marrying the love of his life, Romilda (Millie) Dolores Merkel, on November 7, 1964, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Morris, Indiana. Together, they made their home in Lawrenceville, where they raised their four children and shared 58 wonderful years before moving to a smaller residence in Indianapolis.
Richard spent 50 years as a talented wood carver, often working nights and weekends restoring antique furniture. He was a humble man, always willing to lend a hand without seeking recognition. His strong work ethic, quiet wisdom, and deep devotion to his family and faith defined his life. Richard had a love for music and history, and his dry wit was never far. He was a gifted artist who consistently created unique treasures for those around him. Although his words were few, they always carried wisdom and grace. Above all, Richard was a deeply thoughtful, loving, and faith-filled man.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Millie, and their children: Angela (Tim) Bowman of Indianapolis, IN; Regina (Brady Mick) Salas of Indianapolis, IN; Jay (Lisa) Moorman of Superior, CO; and Andre’ Moorman of Cedar Rapids, IA. He was a cherished grandfather to Allison (Brandon) Weaver, Brittany Bowman, Joshua Bowman, Jacob Bowman, Zoey Bowman, Noah Salas, Cecilia Salas, Sofia Salas, Isaac Moorman, Rebecca Moorman, and Ruthie Moorman, and a proud great-grandfather to Arie Weaver, Grayson Weaver, and Cleopatra Johnson. He is remembered by his five sisters Mary Lou Bernhard, Sue Hix, Rosalie Moorman, Judy (Gary) Nobbe, and Bette (Bob) Woolf, and by his many nieces and nephews. A loving husband, father, and brother, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
