CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds continued reshaping their roster this offseason, announcing two moves that add outfield depth as the club prepares for the 2026 campaign.
Cincinnati agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder JJ Bleday on a one-year, $1.4 million contract. Bleday, 28, spent the 2025 season with the Oakland Athletics, batting .212 with 14 home runs and 39 RBIs in 98 games. The former fourth overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins joins the Reds after being designated for assignment and non-tendered by Oakland.
Bleday has shown offensive promise in his career, including a breakout 2024 season with the Athletics, and gives Cincinnati a left-handed bat with experience at multiple outfield positions.
In a separate transaction, the Reds acquired outfielder Dane Myers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league outfielder Ethan O’Donnell. Myers, 29, appeared in 106 games for Miami in 2025, hitting .235 with six home runs, 31 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. He made his major league debut in 2023 and has played all three outfield spots during his career.
O’Donnell, 23, spent the 2025 season with Double-A Chattanooga, where he batted .236 with a .327 on-base percentage and .325 slugging percentage. He was selected by the Reds in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
To create room on the 40-man roster, Cincinnati designated right-handed pitchers Keegan Thompson and Lyon Richardson for assignment.
The moves leave the Reds with increased outfield depth as they continue shaping their roster ahead of the 2026 season.
