Raymond A. “Bill” Gulley, 82, Metamora

 

            Raymond Allen “Bill” Gulley, age 82, of Metamora, Indiana died early Thursday morning, March 21, 2019 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana after a brief illness.
            Born November 21, 1936 in Metamora, Indiana he was one of four children born to the late A. Cohen & Clara (Sintz) Gulley.  After graduation from the former Brookville High School, he  enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for 10 years attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, having served as a Helicopter Crew Chief.
            On January 31, 1959 he was united in marriage to the former Patricia Gordon, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  
            Bill was retired having worked as a general contractor for much of his life.  He took pride in restoring old buildings throughout the area especially in his hometown of Metamora.  He along with his wife Pat, owned & operated several shops in Metamora over the years; The Metamora Maid, Sugarloaf Weavers, The Metamora Inn Bed & Breakfast and the Corner Post Picture Shop & Bed and Breakfast. 
            In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.  He Co-Pastored the Victory Bible Church in Metamora along with his wife Pat for many years.  He will long be remembered as a very benevolent man who took pride in his hometown and country.

            In addition to his wife of over 60 years, Patricia, he is survived by four children, Colleen (Jeff) Tincher of Brookville, Indiana, Natalie (Jeff) Whitaker of Metamora, Indiana, Lora (David) Smith of Brookville, Indiana and William “Bill” Gulley of Metamora, Indiana; a sister, Linda Riggs of Connersville, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, Katelyn Peace, Matthew Tincher, Ed Whitaker, Rebecca Whitaker, Patrick Whitaker, Shealyn Smith, Daniel Smith, and Curtis Smith; and five great-grandchildren.
            Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Witt & Bertha Smith; as well as half-siblings, Betty Lore;  Hubert, Joe & Jack Gulley.
            Family & friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Metamora Church of God, 20152 U.S. Highway 52, Laurel, Indiana.
            Rev. Wayne Ison will officiate the Funeral Services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Metamora Church of God.  Immediately following the services there will be full Military Honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion.  Burial will take place in Metamora Cemetery at a later date.
