Randal Joseph Simon, age 64 of Osgood, Indiana passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, surrounded in love by his family and caregivers. Randy the son of Arthur J. Simon Jr and Dolores (nee Barhorst) Simon, was born on January 2, 1959, in Greensburg, Indiana.
Randal Joseph Simon was a good-hearted, hardworking, and devoted man, but above all else Randy was a proud man who loved his family fiercely.
Growing up and in his younger years, he was adventurous, strong, tough, and brave with little fear of a challenge. Randy graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1977 and during high school, he began dating and fell in love with Rita, the love of his life. In order to start his life with Rita and become the provider he was determined to be, he got a good job at Thomas and Skinner Inc. where he worked until he retired. With Rita by his side, he started and raised a beautiful family. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Osgood and the Knights of Columbus.
Randy enjoyed being outdoors whether it was working on something in the barn, gardening, working around his property, or mowing the grass. Of course, he also enjoyed sitting in his recliner watching sports or westerns.
In his life, Randy faced many challenges, including a difficult battle with a cancerous brain tumor. While going through cancer treatments about 40 years ago, his one wish was to live long enough to see his kids grow up. He beat cancer and continued to love and support his growing family. Randy loved and cared for his family the best he knew how for years to come through all the trials and tribulations any family endures and then some. Including his youngest son Philip Joseph Simon preceding him in death and no doubt greeting him upon entry into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Randy not only got to watch his kids grow up but also got to be a part of the lives of his five grandkids. So ultimately God granted him the wish he made so many years ago to see his kids grow up.
In Randy’s final days, he was kept company and supported by his family to bid him farewell until we met again one day.
Randy will be truly missed by his wife, Rita; his son, Jeremy (Achleigh) Simon and daughter, Carrie Simon; his grandchildren, Reuben Benham, Kaylee Benham, Lexie Bailey, Alysun Simon, Philip Xavier Simon and one great-grandchild on the way; his mother, Dolores Simon; his brothers, Gary (Marla) Simon, David (Lavonne) Simon, Chris (Jackie) Simon and Greg (Becky) Simon; his sisters, Marilyn Linville, Cheryl (Roger) Meyer and Marcia (Ritchie) Moore; in addition to his in-laws, Eileen (the late Bruce) Kearshner, Eugene (the late Ruth) Westerman and Janice (Andy) Schwier.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur J. Simon Jr., and his son, Philip Joseph Simon.
Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with a 3:45 p.m. Rosary service. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Osgood. Fr. Binu Mathew officiating.
