South Ripley’s Mady Tompkins has signed with the University of Illinois Springfield to play softball.

The senior Raider pitcher helped lead her team to a semi-state appearance in 2020 being named MVP of both the sectional and regional tournaments.

Tompkins holds South Ripley pitching records in ERA and strikeouts along with offensive records for batting average and career home runs with still one season to go.

Prairie Stars head coach Shannon Guthrie said, “Mady is a tireless worker who has the ability to impact a team both in the pitching circle and with her bat. On the mound, Mady is very crafty and knows how to pitch. She does a great job of making the ball move and keeps the batters guessing. At the plate, Mady has a good amount of power and thrives in big situations with runners on base. She had an amazing run with her high school team this past spring as they went further than any team in her school’s history. Mady was a big part of that success as the one who got the ball each game and found a way to win. Off the field, Mady also ranks No. 1 in her class carries a 4.0. Mady puts a lot of hours in to make sure that she is succeeding and it is no secret that her work ethic has led her to where she is today. We are ecstatic that Mady will be continuing her winning ways at UIS.”
