Pirate Track Results At EC Invite

The Lady Pirates Track and Field team competed in the East Central Invitational Friday night. The Greensburg Girls performed very well with many personal bests and placed 5th overall out of 8 teams. The East Central Lady Trojans won the event with Franklin County Wildcats coming in 2nd.

It was another big night for the East Central Invite Champion Lily Grimes who won both of her throwing events and set a new meet record. Shot Put Invite Champion Grimes won shot with a 41’10.5″ put. This throw was an East Central Invitational record breaking put. The previous record of 41’1″ was set by Mackenzie Wheat from South Dearborn in 2013. Grimes was also crowned the Invite Champion of the discus event with a 114′ 7″ toss.
Other big performances came from freshmen Elizabeth Mitchell and Emily Mangels. Mitchell placed 3rd overall in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.27 and 4th in the 100 with a time of 13.07. Mitchell is currently the 6th fastest 100 hurdler and 8th fastest 100 sprinter in Lady Pirate history. Mangels also made her way on Greensburg’s All Time Top Ten. She placed 4th in the 1600 at 5:45.91 and 4th in the 3200 at 12:25.53. Mangels is now the 6th fastest track 2 miler and 10th fastest track miler in school history.
Another individual scorer of the evening was pole vaulter Koregan Kidd as she tied for 6th place with a 8’0 clearance. Other individual highlights came from Kayla Haycock who advanced to finals in long jump and leaped her career best distance of 14’7.5″. Haycock also ran a career best time in 300 hurdles. Other career best times came from Hilary Ernstes and Reyna Wilson in the 200 and Sarah Santiago in the 3200m.
Other invite scorers came from all three relay teams as they earned ribbons for their performances. The 3200m Relay team of Mangels, Sophie Nobbe, Emma Hatton and Emma Wilmer placed 5th, the 400m Relay team of Emily Million, Haycock, Kidd and Ernstes placed 6th and the 1600m Relay team of Hatton, Nobbe, Ernstes and Haycock placed 6th.

The Pirates traveled to East Central on Friday to compete in the EC Invitational and finished in 4th place. Other teams at the invitational include Batesville, Franklin County, South Ripley, Oldenburg, Archbishop Moeller (OH), and Hughes Center (OH) Despite the cold and windy conditions, many Pirates set new PR’s and moved up on the Top 10 list in school history. Daimon Austin is now #9 in school history in Long Jump with his jump of 20’6 ¾”
