Partnership helps students explore healthcare careers

Lawrenceburg, In. — Ivy Tech Community College is partnering with Highpoint Health and Purdue Extension to host a hands-on learning experience to introduce middle school and high school students to healthcare careers.

The Investigation: Health Careers and You program on October 8 is an opportunity for youth in 7th-10th grades to meet with professionals from Highpoint Health and the Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg School of Nursing. The day-long program provides students with opportunities to tour Highpoint Health and visit with medical professionals to learn about their career and education, followed by a trip to Ivy Tech to experience hands on nursing utilizing the College’s Simulation Lab. Youth will get to experience cardiac arrest, giving injections, and placement of IV’s through simulated mannequins that are requiring medical care.

The cost of the program is $25. Transportation, lunch, snacks, and a t-shirt will be provided.
