OPINION: Four Miles, Countless Impacts

Sometimes, the best ideas start with a simple conversation. A few weeks ago, my friend Curtis Gillman reached out with an idea. He told me about a need—one I hadn’t really thought about before. There are athletes right here in Southeastern Indiana living with special needs who want to walk, jog, or run just like anyone else, but they’re often held back. Not by ability, but by lack of access to the right shoes or adaptive gear.

Curtis had a thought: what if we organized a race to help?

And now, it’s happening.

On the morning of July 4, the Four on the Fourth Run/Walk will take place at Liberty Park in Batesville. It’s a four-mile race that benefits a fantastic cause: Every Sole Counts. The mission is simple and powerful—make sure athletes with special needs have the equipment and support they need to participate in outdoor activities like running and walking. No child, or adult, should sit on the sidelines because the right shoes were out of reach.

The event kicks off at 8 AM, and for just $30 (if you register by June 26), you’ll not only help an amazing cause—you’ll also get a sharp-looking tech shirt and a finisher medal to show off your effort. Whether you’re a serious runner or just want to take a morning stroll, this event is for you.

This is about more than just a race. It’s about community. Inclusion. And giving everyone the chance to cross the finish line with pride.

Because every mile matters. And every sole counts.
