Rising Sun, In. — Tuesday at about 10:40 p. m., deputies from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 56 near Rising Sun. An Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist was called to the scene early this morning after a Switzerland County woman passed away as a result of the crash.
According to Indiana State Police, District 42 Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Korry Clark, a white 2014 Dodge Journey being driven by Jennifer J. Turner, 40, of Rising Sun, was traveling southbound on State Road 56 at Henschen Road. Turner’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound maroon 2002 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Lauren M. Rose, 19, of Vevay. The vehicles collided nearly head on in the center of the roadway.
Rose was transported by ambulance to Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where she passed away as a result of injuries she sustained in the collision. Turner was transported to Highpoint Health with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
A passenger in Rose’s vehicle, Isaiah Earles, 18, was transported to Highpoint Health with minor injuries. A front seat passenger in Turner’s vehicle, Ashley P. Turner, 15, was transported to a Cincinnati area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. A backseat passenger in Turner’s vehicle, James C. Turner, 8, was transported to Highpoint Health for treatment of minor injuries.
The roadway was closed for about 3 hours for the crash investigation and cleanup. Turner submitted to a blood test for intoxication. The toxicology results are pending at this time.
A joint investigation of the crash is being conducted by Trp. Korry Clark and Dep. Austin Jefferson, Ohio County Sheriff’s Department.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Aurora Police Department, Ohio County EMS, and Rising Sun Fire Department also assisted.
