(Ripley County, IN) – A Westport man was arrested following a serious motorcycle crash with injuries Thursday evening in Ripley County at West Millhousen and County Line roads.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Trace Elliot Harmon was charged after the investigating deputy detected alcohol on him while the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department and another deputy tended to his injured motorcycle passenger.
Twenty-two-year-old Hannah Brandenburg of Sunman was taken by helicopter to UC Medical Center. Her condition was not released.
Investigators say Harmon admitted to the deputy that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening, and that he failed a standard sobriety test.
Harmon was taken to Margaret Mary Health for a blood sample, then transported to the Ripley County Jail on preliminary charges of OWI Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury with a prior conviction (Level 4 Felony); OWI Endangering (Class A misdemeanor); and OWI (Class C misdemeanor).
Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 8:14 p.m.
In addition to the Napoleon Fire Department, deputies received assistance from Ripley County Communications, Ripley County EMS, Kentucky Air Care 11, and UC Medical Center.
