Oldenburg wins Girls Tennis Regional; Greensburg presents awards

They couldn’t play outside Wednesday.  They couldn’t play outside Thursday.  They weren’t going to play outside Friday, so why not play indoors?

The twice postponed Richmond Girls Tennis Regional Championship was moved to an indoor facility in Ohio Friday.  Oldenburg defeated Franklin County 5-0 to capture the title.

Members of the Twister regional champs are singles players Isabel Price, Alyssa Wanstrath and Evie Vanderpohl and the doubles teams of Mimi Wilder with Evelyn Storms and Mary Hunter with Emma Back.

Oldenburg has a semi-state date against Franklin Community at Center Grove Saturday at noon.

Earlier in the Richmond semifinals, both Oldenburg and Franklin County won their matches by a 4-1 county.  The Twisters topped Centerville and the Wildcats defeated New Castle.

At the Bloomington South Girls Tennis Regional, Greensburg’s great season (15-3) was ended in 5-0 fashion during the semis by third-ranked Columbus North.

The Lady Pirates recently presented their season awards (shown in order):

  • Leah West- Most Improved Player
  • Jenna Foster- Most Valuable Player
  • Morgan Cain- All-Conference #2 Doubles,
  • Hailey Duerstock- All-Conference #2 Doubles,
  • Josie Nobbe- All-Conference #3 Singles.
