Officials warn the public about ‘Gray Death’

Indianapolis, Ind. — A new deadly cocktail of opioid is starting to show up in the Midwest and central Indiana. Gray Death is a mixture of heroin and Fentanyl, carfentanil or U47700. The drug gets its name from the gray color of the substance.

The first overdose death associated with the drug has been reported this week in the Johnson County community of Greenwood. Other overdoses have been reported in Ohio, Georgia and Alabama.

Indiana State Police Lab technician Elizabeth Griffin says a lethal dose could be as little as two grains of salt. She insists most users have no idea how dangerous the mixture can be.

Users snort, inject, swallow and smoke the drug. It presents a hazard to law enforcement because it can be absorbed into the skin.
