OA Volleyball raises $1300 for Murphy family

Oldenburg recently hosted South Dearborn in volleyball for the Lady Twisters annual “Volley For Hope” game. According to OA AD Patrick Kolks, last year, the Lady Twisters raised money for a teammate who’s mom was battling breast cancer. This year, they turned their eyes to another deadly disease, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Andy Murphy and his wife Brooke (Meier) Murphy (OA 2006 graduate) started on a journey together that changed their lives forever. Andy was diagnosed with ALS on December 26, 2019. ALS affects his ability to use his muscles and communicate verbally with others. As this disease progresses, Andy and his family will continue to face new obstacles in completing even the simplest tasks.

Currently, the Murphys are in the process of building their forever home in Batesville to create a safer and more comfortable environment for their family. During this wonderful night, the Lady Twisters raffled off two gift card baskets and had a free will donation bucket. Overall, the ladies raised $1,300. This will go directly to the Murphy family.

The Lady Twisters beat the Lady Knights in five games: 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-11.  Kate Weber and Chloe Bohman led OA in kills with 8 each.  Weber also had a team-high 6 aces.  Elizabeth Gigrich had 43 digs while Caroline Jansing followed with 28.  Kenlee Martin and Weber had 13 and 11 assists respectively.  Jenna Kohrman had the most service receptions with 26.  Gigrich recorded 21 and Jansing had 17.

We thank Mr. Kolks for the information.
