(Oldenburg, IN) – Oldenburg Academy will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX at the girls varsity and junior varsity basketball games vs. Milan on Tuesday, January 28.
Title IX is the federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs and activities. While the law’s impact has ensured equal opportunities in admissions, academic programs, and hiring practices, it is perhaps best known for transforming the landscape of women’s sports.
In 1975, specific regulations were added to ensure equal opportunities for female athletes. Educational institutions had a three-year window to meet the new standards.
To commemorate this pivotal historical moment, Oldenburg Academy basketball players will wear special ICA edition uniforms that night in tribute to the women athletes who paved the way for future generations.
During the varsity game, fans will hear historical facts about Title IX, and former players will be acknowledged for their contributions to the growth and success of the ICA/OA basketball program.
The JV game will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.
