Our final boys basketball broadcast of 2021 saw Waldron defeat Oldenburg 47-38 at the Feldhaus.
It was the third straight victory for the Mohawks and the third straight loss for the Twisters who continue to deal with key injuries.
OA had no answer for Waldron’s Bryce Yarling in the first half. The Mohawks led 12-11 after one quarter. Yarling scored 10.
At the half, Waldron held a 29-19 advantage. Yarling’s 19 matched the Oldenburg team total. Dyllon Stewart had seven points at intermission for the hosts.
OA outrebounded the opposition 21-9 over the first 16 minutes but did not take advantage of most of its 11 offensive rebounds.
The Mohawks moved ahead by 17 early in the third, then the Twisters started to mount a comeback. By the end of the period, OA was down just 37-31 and got as close as four points early in the fourth. But Waldon went on an 8-1 run to regain control and eventually won by nine.
Yarling finished with a game-high 25. Waldron teammate Lucas Mitchell scored 11. Stewart’s 10 points were best for Oldenburg. Fellow Twister C.J. Grote followed with nine.
OA finished with a plus-15 advantage on the glass but hit just 33 percent from the field. Waldron converted 43 percent of its floor shots.
Oldenburg claimed the JV game 39-30 after trailing 12-10 at the half.
The Twisters got 14 points from Jacob Hoff and 11 from Jacob Cornelius. The Mohawks Parker Douglas scored 10.
We thank Oldenburg AD Patrick Kolks for the accommodations and hospitality…and a special thanks for providing a portable stadium chair to a broadcaster with a very painful back injury. We also thank coaches Gary Moorman and Beau Scott for their information and time in our pregame.
