North Decatur varsity baseball earns close win against rival South Decatur

North Decatur Chargers varsity baseball beat rival South Decatur 4-3 on Tuesday.

The Chargers fired up the offense in the second inning, scoring three of their four runs to give them a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars would put up 2 runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.

North Decatur, however, would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-2 game.

South Decatur comeback attempt would fall one run short after scoring their 3rd and final run in the top of the sixth.

Tyler Dean led North Decatur on the mound. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out eight, and walking one.

Devin Pate took the loss for the Cougars. Pate lasted six innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out ten.

The Chargers tallied six hits on the day. James Evans and Brayden Hancock each collected multiple hits for North Decatur. Brayden Hancock and James Evans each collected two hits to lead the team.

Pate went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead South Decatur in hits.
