Norbert Duane “Bert” Wilmer passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023 at the age of 81. Norbert was born on January 6, 1942 in Greensburg to Casper and Claris (Hawkins) Wilmer. He married Clara Jean Hempstead-Wilmer and she survives. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and a profound impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Norbert worked in maintenance at Sibbitt’s in Greensburg where he worked until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional life, he was a former member of the Eagles and the Moose Lodge as well as the Decatur County Conservation Club. Norbert was an outdoorsman. His connection to the natural world was a defining aspect of his life, and it brought him immense joy and fulfillment. He also had a deep and abiding love for animals. Above all, Norbert cherished his time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife; stepchildren: Troy Wayne Blythe, Jerry Dale Blythe, David (Nancy) Payne, Gary (Robin) Hempstead, Treasa (Tabitha) Hempstead, Tracy Faris, and Katie Hempstead; brother, Casper Wilmer, Jr.; sisters: Sherry Israel and Martha “Cookie” Sneed; grandchildren: Jeanie (Dayl) Kola, Paulina Faris, Heather (Lee) Cabatuando, and Allison Hempstead; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by 4 children; grandchild, Brandon Hempstead; siblings: Catherine Ledford, Marianna Beckett, Charles Wilmer, Margaret Kroger, Lowell Wilmer, and Rita Veerkamp.
