Noell “Gene” New, 92, of Milan passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Ripley Crossing. Gene was born Saturday, July 26, 1930 in Aurora; son of Florian and Ethel (Furnish) New. Gene married the love of his life, Mabel (Stacy), on July 22, 1948. Gene worked at Alton Box for 40 years as a die setter, worked for 7 years at Aurora Casket Company, and also worked at Worthington Cabinetry for 11 years. Gene volunteered at the Milan Food Pantry and taught Sunday school at Milan Wesleyan Church where he was a member. Gene enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, doing word search puzzles, playing softball, and he always had a loving dog. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and even traveled to gospel music conventions. Gene most of all cherished spending time with his loving family.
Gene will be missed by his wife, Mabel New of Milan; daughters Nancy (Joe) Dittmer of Aurora, Sharon (Fred) Glover of Milan, and Debbie (Gary) Franklin of Aurora; 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Florian and Ethel New; brothers John New and William “Bill” New; and sisters-in-law Kathleen New and Marjorie New.
Family and friends may gather from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, May 12, 2023 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Milan Wesleyan Church; 419 N Main St, Milan, IN 47031, with Pastor Andrew Hosier officiating. The burial will take place in Hogan Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Gene to Milan Wesleyan Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
