(Washington, D.C.) – Mail will not be delivered and U.S. Post Offices will be closed on Thursday, January 9 for the National Day of Mourning in honor of former President Jimmy Carter.
The U.S. Postal Service is suspending regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity for the day.
The Postal Service will continue accepting and processing volume mail sent by commercial mailers at mail processing centers.
Limited package delivery service will happen in order to ensure business mail does not experience any negative impact to customers or business partners.
The official state funeral for former President Carter will take place Thursday at the National Cathedral in Washington. Mr. Carter passed away on December 29 at his home in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100.
Regular mail services will resume on Friday.
