Neil F. Fields, 74, of Metamora, IN, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on February 17, 1951, to Roma E. and Eunice K. (Sands) Fields, Neil was a devoted husband, father, Papaw, and friend who lived life with quiet strength and a deep love for those around him.
He was married for 52 years to the love of his life, Jacqueline (Tuttle) “Peaches” Fields. Together, they built a family rooted in love, loyalty, and humor. Neil was the proud father of Derek (Samantha) Fields of Laurel, IN, and Billie (Tone) Polyak of Connersville, IN. He was also a father in every way that mattered to his two bonus sons: Patrick Dwyer of Metamora, IN, and Robbie Parker of Connersville, IN.
He was Papaw to his beloved grandchildren: Dalton, Devin, BreAnna, Brandon, William, Olivia, and Jessica—and Great Papaw to Peyton, Ella, John Rugar, and Madelynn.
Neil is survived by his sisters: Judy (Harley) Butler of Cambridge City, IN; Joann Adams of Cambridge City, IN; Nancy (Larry) Zink of Scottsdale, AZ; and Patsy (Jim) Elstro of Abington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, Eddie Fields.
Neil found his greatest joy in time spent with his family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and simply being outdoors. Some of his favorite memories were made in the woods or on the water—especially during annual fishing trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his unwavering loyalty, and a stubbornness that was simply part of who he was— strong-willed, big-hearted, and impossible not to love.
