(Southeastern IN) – Strong to severe storms, and possibly tornados, hit Southeastern Indiana Tuesday night.
Tornado warnings were issued for Ripley, Franklin, Decatur and Dearborn counties after radar indicated rotation.
Parts of Franklin County plus Batesville and Sunman were hit by flooding. Tekulve Road near Hillcrest Country Club, and Huntersville Road at both the underpass and the bridge near State Road 46 were closed last night because of flooding but reopened around 4:30 this morning.
There were reports of downed trees and power lines, and structural damage such as roofs torn from homes and barns were reported in Franklin County. Forecasters say the hardest hit areas were Laurel and Andersonville.
Because of flooding and downed trees, Franklin County Schools were under a two-hour delay this morning.
The National Weather Service planned to send survey teams to the area but were expected to be limited since more severe weather was in the forecast for Wednesday.
There were also power outages in the area this morning, mostly among Duke Energy customers in the Greensburg area and south of Batesville.
