Mrs. Elva Mae (Rucker) Powell

Mrs. Elva Mae (Rucker) Powell, age 93, of Rising Sun, Indiana, entered this life on June 1, 1928 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late, John and Dora Mae (Burke) Rucker. She was raised in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky where she attended school. Elva was united in marriage on January 25, 1947 in Shelbyville, Kentucky to Renzie M. Powell, Sr. and to this union arrived a son, Renzie and a daughter, Glenda to bless their home. Elva and Renzie shared over 70 years of marriage together until he passed away on March 8, 2017. Elva was employed for Thatcher Glass in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, retiring in 1984 after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Warsaw Baptist Church in Warsaw, Kentucky. Elva resided on Scott’s Ridge in Rising Sun, Indiana since 1956. Elva enjoyed gardening, quilting and cooking. She also enjoyed playing guitar and piano, as well as, singing church hymns. She loved to write short stories. Elva was a wonderful homemaker and was the best cook. Elva passed away at 7:35 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky.

Elva will be missed by her son, Renzie Powell, Jr. and his wife, Thelma of Rising Sun, IN; her daughter, Glenda Roy and her husband, Tom of Aurora, IN; her grandchildren, Tommy Joe Powell, Amy (Greg) Hill, Alisa (Casey) Keith, Julie Ann (Larry) Roy and Summer (Dean) Scheffler; her great-grandchildren, Brinnick Presley, Emilee (Cameron) Abbott, Evan (Alex) Peelman, Eyan Peelman, Kaylee White, Natalie Tiley, Ellie Keith and Madelyn Keith; her great-great-grandchildren, Landon White, Mason McMurray, Abby Tiley, Clayten Toops and Sadilynn Presley; her twin sister, Alva Cook of Shelbyville, KY and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dora Mae (Burke) Rucker; her husband, Renzie M. Powell, Sr.; her granddaughter, Glendora Lynn “Dorie” Peelman; her great-grandson, Thomas Jeffery “TJ” White; her sisters, Lorena Whitehouse, Louella Rucker, Iva Dean Gabbart and Edith Waits and her brothers, Ira B. Rucker, Kenneth Rucker, Marion Rucker and Lee Rucker.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Patrick Lanman at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch, Indiana.
