Mr. Ernest Thomas “Ernie” Curlin, age 64, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 15, 1952, in Dearborn County, Indiana, the son of the late, Blanton Tandy Curlin and Virginia Lou Jean (Cobb) McCormick. He was raised in Dearborn County, Indiana where he attended school. Ernie was united in marriage on August 2, 1969 at the Dillsboro Church of Christ in Dillsboro, Indiana, to Marydale “Mickey” Jackson. Ernie was later united in marriage in 1984 in Cochran, Indiana to Tina Campbell. He was later united in marriage to Sheila Vogel on September 6, 1997 in Switzerland County, Indiana and to this union arrived a son, Calob Jacob Curlin to bless their home. Ernie was employed as a truck driver for Bell Yelton Trucking in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, for several years. Ernie was a member of the Aurora Church of Christ in Aurora, Indiana. He was a member of the Sons of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Sons of the Vevay VFW Post #5396. He was a founder of the Vevay American Legion Riders Post #185. He was also a member of the Florence Masonic Lodge No. 27 F&AM. Ernie enjoyed farming all of his life, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and horses, irritating Shirley Bill and spending time with his family and friends. Ernie passed away at 11:08 am, Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Ernie will be dearly missed by his son: Calob Jacob Curlin of Vevay, IN; his brothers: Blanton Eugene Curlin of Moores Hill, IN and Russell Gilbert Curlin of North Vernon, IN; his half-brothers: James William McCormick of Lawrenceburg, IN, Frank Curlin of Orlando, FL, Chuckie Curlin of Dalton, GA, Billy Curlin of Lawrenceburg, IN, David Curlin of Vevay, IN; his half-sister: Shirley Anne Davis of Carrollton, KY; his step-sister: Missy Ricketts of Moorefield, IN; his step-brothers: Lee Young of Mulberry, FL, Paul Young of Milan, IN, James Young of Indianapolis, IN and Bryan Young of Indianapolis, IN; his uncles: Paul Curlin of Vevay, IN and Bobby Curlin of Ripley,OH; his aunt: Francis Houze of Dillsboro, IN and his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Blanton Tandy Curlin and Virginia Lou Jean (Cobb) McCormick; his step-mother: Mary (Niccum) Curlin, died July 2, 1989; his son: Christopher Lee Curlin, died September 7, 2005; his sister: Bonita Faye Roberts Napier, died May 31, 2012; his half-brother: Steven Curlin and his step-brother: Alan Young.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Bobby Brundige Jr. at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043. (All family and friends and riders to please ride your motorcycle in honor of Ernie to Fredonia Cemetery.)
Interment will follow in the Fredonia Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
