Mr. Dwane Vencen Giles, age 78, of Guilford, Indiana, entered this life on October 20, 1945 in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Delbert N. and Julena May “June” (Keller) Giles. He was raised in Ravenswood, West Virginia and was a 1964 graduate of Ravenswood High School, where he excelled in football and was an active member of the business club. He furthered his education at Mountain State College in Parkersburg, West Virginia, studying business from 1964 to 1965. Dwane proudly served his country in the United States Navy, having been inducted on April 1, 1966. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman on December 1, 1971. Dwane was united in marriage to Mary Lou Ward on November 26, 1965 in Sparta, North Carolina. This happy union was blessed with three children, Tammy, Angela and David. Dwane and Mary Lou shared 33 years of marriage together until her passing on March 11, 1998. Dwane was later united in marriage on September 13, 2003 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to Romelda Rae Tidwell. This happy blended family was blessed with a son, Clinton and a daughter, Caroline. His professional career included roles as a chemical operator for Agrium in North Bend, Ohio from 1985 until his retirement in 2007. Dwane was also employed for Kaiser Aluminum and as a meat cutter at Wards Market in Ravenswood, West Virginia. Dwane was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg-Greendale, Indiana. He had a passion for fishing, enjoyed watching westerns on television, and cherished spending time with his family. Dwane particularly loved shopping with his wife, often seeking out sugar-free candy. Dwane passed away and met Christ for eternity at 3:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Dwane’s impact on the lives of his children is immeasurable, and his legacy will forever be cherished. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dwane is survived by his wife, Romelda Rae (Tidwell) Giles of Guilford, IN; his daughters, Tammy Richards and her husband, Ernie of Rising Sun, IN, Angela Smith and her husband, Earl “Roy” of Aurora, IN and Caroline Kunkel and her husband, Josh of Milford, OH; his sons, David Giles and his wife, LeeAnn of Broken Arrow, OK and Clinton Shaffer and his wife, Sarah of Huntsville, AL; his grandchildren, Ashley Owens (Michael), Amanda Richards (Brandon Henderson), April Miller (Joey), Kirkland Giles (Darcy), Alaina Giles, Vivian Giles, Ernie Richards III., Benjamin Kunkel, Erik Shaffer, Alexander Kunkel and Samuel Kunkel; his great-grandchildren, Jayden Owens, Abby Henderson, Ellery Giles, Landon Richards, Trinidi Richards and Peyton Richards; his brother, Dallas S. Giles and his wife, Margie of Elizabeth, WV and his niece, Shannon Watson and her husband, Gary of Elizabeth, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert N. and Julena May “June” (Keller) Giles; his former wife, Mary Lou (Ward) Giles; his sister-in-law, Joyce Giles and his nephew, Dallas S. “DJ” Giles, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Greendale, 45 Tebbs Avenue, Greendale, Indiana 47025.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Greendale, 45 Tebbs Avenue, Greendale, Indiana 47025.
Full military rites and interment will be conducted by the Southeastern Honor Guard in the St. Paul United Methodist Cemetery, corner of State Road 101 and East County Road 900 North, Sunman, Indiana.
