Memorial to Hoosier automotive icon to be dedicated

Greensburg, in. — The Historical Society of Decatur County will dedicate the Carl Fisher memorial on Saturday, September 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the historical society on Franklin Street.

Fisher was born in Greensburg in 1874. Besides being known as a promoter he was also known for wild stunts like floating into the city of Indianapolis in a Stoddard-Dayton car suspended from a hot air balloon. He was also a driving force behind brands like Prest-O-Lite Storage Battery Company, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Dixie and Lincoln Highways.

Carl’s great nephew and biographer, Jerry Fisher and Carl Fisher’s 1914 Packard will be at the celebration.
