Melvin “Dink” Roedl

Melvin J. “Dink” Roedl, 99 of Milan passed away Friday February 24, 2017 at Ripley Crossing at Milan.  Dink was born in Tolono, Illinois on Monday April 6, 1917 to Rudolph and Rose (Bushue) Roedl.  He married Norma Wacaster Roedl   July 14, 1945 and she preceded him in death January 8, 2005.  Dink served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy during WWII.  After the war Dink and Norma moved to Milan where he worked at Seagrams determining tax on the alcohol as an employee of the Dept. of Treasury.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 235, VFW Post 6234 of Milan, and a 72 year member of the St. Charles Catholic Church. He worked extra jobs and owned several businesses in the area over the years.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, always having a good “fish story” to tell. Dink and Norma valued their friends who made Milan a wonderful place for them to raise their family and grow older.  Dink spent the last 12 years at Ripley Crossing where he enjoyed the musical entertainment and staff. The family wishes to thank them for the exceptional care.

Dink is survived by daughter Carolyn, (Richard) Shock of Batesville, Constance Stine of Phoenix, Arizona, sons Larry (Michele) Roedl of West Chester and James (Teresa) Roedl of Aurora, 6 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by wife, Norma, and grandson Michael D’Ambrosio-Roedl, and 3 brothers.

Funeral Mass will be said at 3PM Friday March 3 at St. Charles Catholic Church 201 W. Ripley St. Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery with full military honors by Milan American Legion Post #235. Visitation  also Friday 1 until 2:45PM at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the Milan Legion,  St. Charles Church, or the activity fund at Ripley Crossing.
