UPDATE: Medical helicopter called to weekend crash near Osgood

*UPDATE* — An Aurora man was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by the Lifeline helicopter following a single-vehicle rollover crash on US 421 at County Road 500 North just before 6:30 Saturday evening. The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses told investigators that 48-year-old Jerald Powell Junior was driving erratically, speeding up, slowing down, and crossing the center line on northbound 421 near Jac-Cen-Del High School when his SUV went off the road and struck an embankment. Investigators say the impact combined with the speed of the vehicle caused it to go airborne a short distance before coming to rest in the opposite direction of travel. Witnesses said the SUV made a barrel roll while in the air. Powell was the only occupant of the vehicle. His condition is not known at this time. The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
