Mattie Helen (nee Riley) Wagner, age 95, of Oldenburg, Indiana, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg, Indiana. Born January 24, 1931, in Crockettsville, Kentucky. She is the daughter of John and Cora (nee Turner) Riley. She was married to Ralph Wagner on March 1, 1957, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, Indiana. She was previously married to William A. Alley (1927-1957) on March 29, 1947.
Mattie was the owner of Wagner’s Village Inn for 28 years, beginning in 1968, before retiring in 1996. Although she never drank, she was the life of the party. Her family remembered living above the restaurant, but the party was always happening downstairs. Mattie loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandkids, and was always celebrating the good times with others. Every year the family would close the restaurant for two weeks and go on a vacation. She and Ralph also liked to visit the gambling casinos in later years while traveling to new cities.
She is survived by her daughters Ginger Saccomando and Beth (Phil) Zawaski both of Oldenburg, Cathy (Dan) Kerker and Carol (Jeff) Heidlage both of Batesville; sisters Mildred Gabbard of Laurel, IN and Brenda Werner of Greensburg, IN; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; spouses William Alley and Ralph Wagner; son Harold Alley; sisters Nola Blake and Nancy Stirn; and brother Henry Riley.
Visitation is Friday, February 13th, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. John Barker OFM, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Our Hospice. For online condolences, please go to www.weigelfh.com.
