Mary Rose Doyle, age 84 of Oldenburg, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Chateau of Batesville. Born August 4, 1934 in Oldenburg, she is the daughter of Alice (Nee: Gutzwiller) and Urban Schmidt. She married James Doyle January 12, 1952 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. A homemaker, she also worked as a tutor at the Batesville School Corporation for 10 years and served as a Girl Scout Leader several years.
Family was the center of Mary Rose’s life. She loved having her children and the grandkids around. Her family explained that she always had a baby in her lap, which she thoroughly enjoyed. They also talked about “what a great cook and baker mom was, especially her German Potato Salad and Goulash, but then, she could make some delicious out of nothing.” That may explain her fondness for the many hours of watching The Cooking Channel. Her cookies were a family favorite and she loved having the grandkids help her in the kitchen. For the locals, it was common to see Mary Rose and Jim out walking or waving from their front porch as you drove by.
Mary Rose is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Cyndi (Steve) Voegele of St. Leon, Indiana, Debbi Obermeyer of Batesville, Julie Meyer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Angele (Randy) Jobst of Batesville, Cammie Pierson (fiancée Casey Hohman) of Oldenburg; son Kevin (Lori) Doyle of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; sister Jayne Peetz of Oldenburg; twenty two grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by son Jimmy Doyle; grandson Killian Doyle and brothers Charles and Robert Schmidt.
Visitation is Saturday, September 22nd, from 9 – 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Carl Langenderfer O.F.M. officiating with burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research or Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice. Weigel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
