Mary C. Gilland, 88, of Osgood passed away at 2:11am, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at her home with her family by her side. She was born near Osgood on January 10, 1934, the daughter of Arthur Sr. and Eva Tunny Simon. She was married to Donald Gilland on October 22, 1952, and he preceded her in death on October 11, 2013. Survivors include three sons Rick (Cindy) Gilland of Holton, and Mark (Lorrie) and Steve (Julie) Gilland both of Osgood; three daughters Debbie (Jerry) Potts, Cindi (Rick) Ahlrich, and Joni (Carl) Lunsford all of Osgood; 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; one brother Dale (Bonnie) Simon of Bennington; two sisters Linda (Tim) Wissel of Greensburg and Rita (Jim) Bedel of Westport; brother-in-law Louis Wolter, and sisters-in-law Delores Simon and Patty Simon all of Osgood. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Arthur, Donald, Charles, and Gene Simon, her sisters Amelia Wolter and an infant sister, and sisters-in-law Lucille, Mary Ann, and Ola Simon. Mrs. Gilland was a 1952 graduate of Osgood High School and was employed with the Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School where she worked in the school cafeteria. Mary loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and tending to her garden and her flowers. She was well known to her friends and family as a structured individual and very consistent in serving her Lord and others. Mary was a lifelong member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church where she participated in the NCCW. She was also a member of the Jolly Workers Homemakers Club. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 10a.m. at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with Father Bill Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4p.m. to 7p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services at 3:30p.m. Memorials may be given in the form of masses or to the St. Maurice bell tower project in care of the funeral home.
