Mary A. Thornsberry

Mary A. Thornsberry, age 88 of Batesville, died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.  Born September 3, 1933 in St. Mary’s, Indiana, she is the daughter of Herman and Margeruite (Nee:  Amrhein) Flaspohler.  She married Julius “Jay” Thornsberry on August 6, 1955 at St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2016.  She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville.

Mary Thornsberry lived a fairly simple life, but she had a big, big heart!  She loved being a homemaker and raising a family.  She also loved being Grannie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of their friends.  We loved her peanut butter balls and fudge.  She loved Christmas and spent every year, all year buying a gift for each and every one of us!  She and Dad loved passing them out.  We all would come and she always had spares for the surprise guests who came with some of us.  Mom and Dad had their Batesville family, then when they moved to Jasper, Indiana, they met some amazing people who became their Jasper family.  She ended up with a whole bunch of new kids who also called her Grannie.  She will be greatly missed by all of us.

She is survived by her daughters Wilma (Joe) Soular and Julie Day, both of Batesville, Mary Jane (Joe Dwenger) Harmeyer of Greensburg, Indiana; sons Marv (Deanna) Thornsberry and Shorty (Becky) Thornsberry, both of Osgood, Indiana, Tom (Jill) Thornsberry of Batesville; sisters Alberta Fecher of Milan, Indiana and Wilma Ripperger of New Point, Indiana; brother Kenneth Flaspohler of Brookville, Indiana;  brother-in-law David Thornsberry of Connersville, Indiana;  21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son David Thornsberry; granddaughter Erin Thornsberry; sister Lorraine Dierckman; brothers William, Cecil and John Flaspohler.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30th, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating.  The burial will be at St. Louis Cemetery.  Memorials contributions can be made to the New Horizon’s Rehabilitation Center.  Online condolences may be made at www.weigelfh.com.
