(Decatur County, IN) – It was a happy ending to a water rescue on Westport Dam Tuesday evening.
Rescuers from several agencies responding to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. were told by a man that his friend was swept downriver.
Two kayaks were launched in the river; the Letts Community Volunteer Fire Department deployed a drone, and ground crews and a UTV worked to reach the area where the missing man was last seen.
The kayak teams found the man about a quarter mile down river.
The unidentified man and all of the rescuers safely returned to shore.
There were no injuries reported.
Other responding agencies included the Westport Fire Department, Decatur County EMS and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.
