Man Dies After Vehicle Goes Through Cornfield, Crashes Into Mobile Home

(Decatur County, IN) – A Shelbyville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash along State Road 3 in Decatur County on the Fourth of July.

Decatur County Communications received a call around 7:46 p.m. Friday about a vehicle heading north on 3 that left the road and went into a cornfield.

Witnesses told Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies that the vehicle initially traveled into the median on the west side of the road before coming back onto 3 and going off the east side of the road. The witnesses said the vehicle went into a cornfield, and that’s where they lost sight of it.  on

First responders tracked the vehicle down and discovered it crashed into an unoccupied mobile home at 1626 West State Road 3.

The driver, identified as 50-year-old George Harold Ramsey, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was extricated from the wreckage.

Ramsey was taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
