(Batesville, IN) – Batesville will be a veritable hub of activity on Saturday.

Events include the St. Louis School Cardinal Crawl 5K at 9 a.m.

The 2nd annual Raver Relays begin at 10 a.m. at the Batesville High School track. Proceeds benefit the Ron Raver Scholarship Fund and the Batesville track and field program.

At 11 a.m. at two different venues on opposite ends of town, it’s varsity high school baseball.

The Batesville Bulldogs host the New Palestine Dragons at BHS’s new ball diamond, and Oldenburg Academy welcomes Jac-Cen-Del to historic Liberty Park.

After the Twisters and Eagles game, the Ace Moorman Field dedication ceremony takes place at 2 p.m.

The field previously known as Liberty Field was dedicated in 1921. It was renamed in memory of Thomas “Ace” Moorman earlier this year.

Moorman passed away in December at the age of 89.

He played on the field that now bears his name, and started his baseball journey in 1940 with American Legion Post #271 while he was still in junior high school.

Moorman went on to star for the undefeated Batesville Bulldogs high school baseball team, and later in the summer of 1953, he helped Post #271 earn a trip the American Legion State Finals.

He graduated to the Tri-County League and played for the Batesville Bullets.

After his playing days ended, Moorman coached for more than 25 years.

Seating will be available in the grandstand, and along the fence at Ace Moorman Field. You can also bring a lawn chair.

An area between the grandstand and 3rd base dugout will set up to provide easy access to enter the field for anyone who can’t walk up the grandstand steps.  Chairs will be set up behind home plate.

A golf cart will also be available to those who need assistance.
