Longtime State Lawmaker Passes Away

(Statehouse) – State Sen. Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis, pictured) has died – just two days after stepping down from her seat due to health issues.

Breaux represented Senate District 34, which is made up of part of northeast Indianapolis.

She was absent for most of this year’s legislative session while recovering from an infection.

Breaux was first elected to the State Senate in 2006, and served as Assistant Senate Democratic Leader from 2012-2020.

She was the daughter of former State Senator Billie Breaux.

Jean Breaux was 65.
