The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will extend operating hours at license branches to assist voters in need of state ID cards and driver’s licenses.
Local branches will extend hours Monday, May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, May 6 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
To ensure voters have immediate access to services, license branches will only process ID cards, driver’s licenses and learner’s permits. Driver’s tests will not administered.
The BMV provides free, state-issues ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as proper identification is provided and the requester is old enough to cast a ballot.
The following documents are required to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license. A complete list can be found at the Indiana BMV website.
- One document proving your identity, such as a birth certificate or passport
- One document proving your Social Security number, such as a Social Security card, pay stub or W-2
- One document proving your lawful status in the United States, such as a birth certificate or passport
- Two documents proving your IN residency, such as a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement
All license branches will resume normal business hours and operations on Wednesday, May 7. Branches normally closed on Wednesdays will re-open Thursday, May 8.
