Leota M. Conover, 89, of Holton passed away at 6p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. She was born near Holton on February 16, 1934, the daughter of Floyd and Ida Barricklow Franklin. She was married to Egbert Conover on April 12, 1953 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2003. Survivors include one son Nathan (Becky) Conover of Holton; two daughters Susan (Larry) Black of Osgood and Sally (Mike) Webster of Cross Plains; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers Gene (Shirley) Franklin and Frank Franklin both of Holton; two sisters Eva Mae Wagoner of North Vernon and Rowena Sanders of Edinburg. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Norman Conover, and her brothers Allen and Ben Franklin. Mrs. Conover was a 1952 graduate of Holton High School. Leota’s working career spanned over 40 years where she worked as a cook at both the Holton and South Ripley schools. She enjoyed playing cards and had been a member of the Hopewell Ladies Card Club. Her life centered around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her church family at Hopewell. Sunday dinners after church were at her house and involved kick ball and softball games in the front yard after the meal. Leota was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at Hopewell on Wednesday, May 17 at 11a.m. with Rev. David Shivers and Rev. Luke Koors officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5p.m. to 8p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
