(Franklin County, IN) – The next round of elections in Southeastern Indiana do not take place until next year, but a deputy has tossed his hat in the ring to run for Franklin County Sheriff.
Oldenburg resident Brad Lecher has announced his candidacy to run as a Republican to succeed Sheriff Pete Cates, who is term-limited.
Lecher has filed the proper paperwork with the Franklin County Clerk’s Office to announce his intent to run in the May 2026 primary.
He can start campaigning but cannot officially sign up until January.
Lecher has served for nearly 20 years with the sheriff’s office as a jail officer and as a merit deputy.
He earned certification in April as the agency’s first ever accident reconstructionist.
