Tuesday night in high school boys basketball on WRBI, South Dearborn capped its Senior Night with a 53-41 victory over visiting Batesville.
The two teams were even at seven following the first quarter. After SD scored the first four points of the second period, the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to go up 16-11. However, the host Knights finished the half with six straight points to lead 17-16 at intermission.
Both Ryan Willoughby of the Knights and Cody Mohr of the Bulldogs had six points at the break.
The final lead for BHS came early in the third on a couple of quarter-opening field goals. But the Dragon’s Den dwellers strung together seven in a row to retake the lead and later held a 33-28 advantage at the stop.
In the fourth, Batesville tied the game at 37 but could not find the high side of the scoreboard. South Dearborn put the game away with 12 unanswered points and finished the EIAC battle on top by a dozen.
It was Reese Willoughby who led the Knights in scoring with 16. Drew Probst put in 12 and Eli Hoffman had 10. Ryan Willoughby picked up two more points in the second half and finished with eight.
Cody Mohr’s 11 points were best for the Bulldogs. Cole Werner followed with 10 while six each were added by Tom Raver and Kaisin Hughes.
Despite South Dearborn dominating the boards by a count of 31-19, Batesville had a chance to make this game much closer but hit just 7-of-16 free throws.
The Dogs beat the Knights in the JV game 38-26. Conner Drake’s eight points led the way. Gus Prickel scored seven and Jack Grunkemeyer had six for the reserves in blue.
