The Wildcats overcame a lot of defensive errors on Thursday night with great pitching and timely hitting to defeat the Batesville Bulldogs by a final score of 7-3. The victory extends the Wildcats winning streak to six games and give them another EIAC victory for the season. The Wildcats record is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in EIAC play. Batesville falls to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The first inning was dominated by each teams pitchers as Kara Obermeyer and Camryn Brewer sent each team down relatively quickly. Franklin County was then able to strike first in the top of the second inning.
Kay Kay Ferman led off the bottom of the second inning by drawing a walk. Then with one out, Morgan Bare and Sarah Bare followed with two more walks to load the bases. Obermeyer was able to get a strike out for the second out of the inning, but then proceeded to walk Abby Orschell and Makaylee Woods to score the first two runs of the game and give Franklin County the early 2-0 lead.
The next few innings were relatively quiet as both pitchers were keeping the hitters off-balance and hitting the corners of the plate. It wasn’t until the top of the fourth that either team was able to do anything offensively, and this time it was Batesville’s turn.
Batesville led off the inning with a lead off single by Kylie Laker, which was then followed by a double by Paige Oldham to make the score 2-1. After an error allowed Oldham to move to third base, she was able to score on a sacrifice fly to right field by Abby Westerfeld to tie the score at 2-2. Brewer then induced a flyout to end the inning.
Franklin County would then regain the lead in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Karlie Hahn drew a walk, which was then followed by a double down the left field line by Morgan Bare to give the Wildcats runners at first and second with one out. Sarah Bare would then draw a walk to load the bases. During the next at bat, a pitch would get away from the Batesville catcher and allow Hahn to score from third. Westerfeld would then come into the game for the Bulldogs and retire the next two hitters to end the inning.
Batesville would tie the game back up in the bottom of the sixth thanks to some defensive gifts from the Wildcats. Kylie Laker would lead off the inning for the Bulldogs by reaching base on a fielding error. She would reach second as Paige Oldham grounded out to Makaylee Woods for out number one. Kara Obermeyer would then hit a grounder to third that would be thrown away and allow Laker to score from third and tie the game at 3-3. Brewer would then work out of the jam to end the inning and take it to the seventh.
Franklin County would then regain the lead for good in the top of the seventh. Makaylee Woods would draw a lead off walk to start the inning. She would then steal second on a close play with a good hook slide on the outside of the base. Then next play would be a routine fly ball to left field that was caught for out number one; however, the throw into the infield was wide of the second baseman and ricocheted into right field. This allowed Woods to score all the way from second base and make the score 4-3. Kloe Bolos would then single to center field to give the Wildcats another base runner. Westerfeld would retire the next hitter before Karlie Hahn would be hit by a pitch. Next, Morgan Bare singled on a opposite field hit to right field that scored Bolos and allowed Hahn to get to third. Bare would then advance to second on the first pitch of the next at bat. Finally Sarah Bare would cap off the scoring for the Wildcats by driving a pitch to center field scoring Hahn and Bare to make the score 7-4.
In the seventh inning, Batesville would put a couple runners on thanks to Franklin County errors, but Camryn Brewer would again work out of it to end the game with a final score of 7-4. She would pick up the win in the circle for the Wildcats bringing her record to 3-0 on the year. She would allow 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, 0 walks, and 3 strike outs.
The Wildcats offense was led by Morgan Bare who had her best game of the young season. Morgan had a single, a double, and also drew a walk. She also had an RBI and scored two runs in the game. Sarah Bare also had a single, drew two walks, and had an RBI.
Franklin County will be back in action on Saturday morning for a double header with the Patriots from Union County. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11 AM.

The Franklin County Junior Varsity won in dominate fashion again on Thursday night as the defeated the Batesville Bulldogs by a final score of 15-3. The Wildcats were able to record 11 hits on the evening and didn’t commit a single error in the field.
