Lady Wildcats Defeat Lady Tigers

The Franklin County Wildcats softball team extended their winning streak to 4 games with the first EIAC victory of the season over Lawrenceburg by a score of 9-2. The Wildcats did a great job of putting hard balls in play all evening and it showed on the scoreboard. The Wildcats recorded 11 hits in the contest and put several balls in play that the Tigers had trouble fielding which led to more free bases for the Wildcats. Kay Kay Ferman also had a great game in the circle for the Wildcats, holding the Tigers to two runs.

Lawrenceburg got the scoring started in the first inning when Gallagher led off the game with a single to second base. She would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dunagan to give the Wildcats their first out of the inning. Next, there was a fly ball into shallow center field that didn’t appear deep enough to score Gallagher, but the throw home bounced away from the catcher and allowed Lawrenceburg to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers would add another run in the top of the second inning when K. Lowe and L. Hiene doubled on back-to-back at bats to make the score 2-0 in favor of Lawrenceburg.

Franklin County would also start their scoring in the second inning with Emily Wendel getting a single with two outs. Next, Sarah Bare singled to center field giving the Wildcats runners at first and second. Hadlee Hornsby would then pinch run for Wendel since she was in scoring position, and it would pay off in the next at bat. Abby Orschell would then single to right field to score Hornsby from second making the score 2-1.

The Wildcats would take the lead for good in the bottom of the third when Camryn Brewer led off the inning with a single, and was followed by a double by Kloe Bolos. Ferman would then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Brewer and advance Bolos to third. Morgan Bare would then walk, followed by a single to right field by Emily Wendel, scoring Bolos and giving the Wildcats the 3-2 lead.

Franklin County would continue to attack the ball well in the final innings of the game, scoring three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, then two more in the fifth the give the Wildcats their 9 runs for the game.
