Oldenburg Academy Lady Twister took a defensive Switzerland County last night in the graveyard.
Switzerland County played 9 people back on defense which made for a one sided game. Oldenburg shot the ball 53 times throughout the match but was only able to find the net 3 times. Oldenburg came out with the 3-1 win, but it was not a pretty win.
Goals were scored by Haleigh Reed with the assist from Maria Lewis. Second goal was scored by Kirsten Ricke off of an assist by Elizabeth Schulte on a corner kick. Final goal of the evening was scored by Emma Schulte off of Ella Lamping’s deflection.
‘I told the girls after the game a win is a win and the shots will start going in and just keep shooting. Switzerland County’s, Eva Galbreath, is their goalkeeper and she did a great job defending for her team. Galbreath ended with 18 saves on the night.’ OA Coach Kendra Getz.
JV girls took on Switzerland County’s JV team and OA came out on top 4-1.
With ten freshman on our team this year it has been exciting to see how our program is really growing and taking off. Captains for the JV team are Cori Hammoor and Angela Wanstrath. Andrea Rinck, junior, had a hat trick in the JV half with an assist from Lexi Brown on a cross, own goal, and then an assist from Melissa Meneses. Clare Weidner had a great shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net right before the half was over. She has come so far this season and I am expecting great things from her in her four years here at the Academy.
JV improves to 2-1 on the season and will be taking on New Castle’s JV team tonight after the varsity match.
OA improves to 6-1 on the season. OA takes on New Castle in the “graveyard” tonight at 5pm, with a JV half to follow.
