The key to the Lady Charger Varsity Volleyball victory last night over Greensburg was improved ball control in all areas. Their improved blocking, digging, and serve receive so that the Chargers were in system more against the Pirates than at any time this season. Being in system led to more accurate setting and increased kill percentage.
The Lady Chargers cut down their hitting errors. They had 23 errors in 123 attacks and increased their kill percentage with 39 kills out of those 123 attacks. The Lady Chargers also got their hands on 71 Pirate attacks with 57 blocks and 5 block kills. The Lady Chargers continued their excellent season serving percentage of 94% by serving 81 for 86 while adding 10 aces.
They also improved their serve receive to 64 of 79 with 60 of those passes in system to keep the offensive pressure on the Pirates. Many of those serve receive errors occurred in the first and fourth sets when the Pirates amped up their offensive and service pressure.
Mary Hughes led the Chargers defensively from the libero position with (unofficially) 24 digs and 38 of 46 serves received. Mary also served a perfect 21 for 21 with 1 ace.
Kaitlin Herbert led the Chargers offensively with 12 kills while hitting 24 of 28. Kaitlin also added 5 blocks and 1 block kill. Kaitlin also served 7 of 8 with 1 ace.
Sarah Bohman led the Chargers as a middle blocker at the net with 21 blocks and 4 block kills. She also hit 20 of 29 with 8 kills.
Senior Laura Haunert orchestrated the Charger offense from her setting position in the 6-2 offense. She also served 16 of 18 with 1 ace.
Senior Anna Schwering led the serving attack with 20 of 21 serves and 6 aces. She also hit 23 of 28 with 5 kills.
Samantha Krieger added a great overall performance. She hit 13 of 15 with 6 kills. She also added 9 blocks with 1 block kill.
Olivia Siefert had a huge impact at middle blocker, as well, with 15 blocks. She also hit 9 of 10 with 6 kills. Olivia served 9 of 9 with 1 ace.
Seniors Chelsi Schubert and Allie Louder rounded out the Charger attack with 1 kill each, hitting 6 of 7 and 3 for 3, respectively.
Kiley Stier also provided an integral performance from the other setter position. Kiley also served 8 of 9.
The Chargers won the match in 5 sets: 14-25, 25-19, 25-17, 14-25, 15-8
The win improves North’s record to 6 wins and 8 losses with the majority of their Mid-Hoosier Conference schedule remaining. The Chargers host Morristown on Thursday night and play in the Eastern Hancock Tournament on Saturday.
