Lady Bulldogs Win Big Over Lady Lions

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-1 on the season with a 11-1 win over the Rushville Lady Lions. Lauren Gutzwiller got the scoring started 1 minute into the game off an assist from Carlie Werner. Werner would make the score 3-0 after a pair of goals within the first 5 minutes. The pair of goals came off assists from Ashley Nobbe and Gutzwiller. The fourth goal was a Rushville own goal after Lily Meyer made a great run from outside back to hit in a tough cross for the defense to handle as they deflected it into the back of the net. Olivia Knueven had a significant role in both of the final goals of the first half. The first took an unfortunate bounce off the far post after she took a nice shot past the Rushville goalkeeper and Catherine Raab was there for the rebound score. Knueven scored the 6th Lady Bulldog goal off a nice assist from Werner.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs started off slow and were not able to find the back of the net for the first 15 minutes. Finally, Abbey Prickel intercepted a Rushville pass and carried the ball from center back through the Rushville defense for a great far post finish. The Lady Bulldogs would add 4 more in the second half. It was Werner finding Liz Heidlage on a crossing pattern as Heidlage finished to the far post. Werner finished off her hat trick on an unassisted goal to make it 9 – 0. Batesville made 11 substitutions with 18 minutes to play and the second group would add two more goals to the tally. It was Tristan Rowlett and Bella Britch, scoring for the Lady Bulldogs. With just over a minute to play, Rushville would make the score 11-1 after they found their way past the Batesville defense.

“It was nice to get some confidence in our scoring ability tonight. We had several 1-touch finished tonight after working on this for much of the practice week. Ellie Cassidy and Abbey Prickel did a great job keeping our defense organized for the match.” Coach Laker commented on the game.

Batesville will be back in action next Thursday as they travel to Greensburg for their second conference match of the season.
