Varsity: Battling Through Adversity
Triton Central 66, Batesville 49 (Dec. 23) In their most recent outing, the Lady Bulldogs (7-6) showed grit against a potent Triton Central offense. Batesville stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, trailing by just a single basket, 28-26, at the intermission.
Leah Meyer spearheaded the offensive attack, pouring in a team-high 16 points on efficient 7-of-14 shooting while pulling down rebounds in traffic. She was supported by Maggie Jelinek, who added 12 points, including a strong showing in the fourth quarter where she scored 8 points to keep the Bulldogs fighting until the final buzzer.
Kaylin Kathman chipped in 9 points, knocking down a three-pointer and converting both her free throws, while Nora Wiedeman showcased her range early, finishing with 7 points behind two made three-pointers. Despite the balanced effort, Triton Central pulled away in the second half with hot shooting to seal the 66-49 victory.
East Central 55, Batesville 28 (Dec. 20) Three days prior, the Bulldogs traveled to St. Leon to face East Central. It proved to be a difficult defensive struggle for Batesville, who fell 55-28. The offense struggled to find its rhythm against East Central’s pressure, with Leah Meyer leading the scoring effort with 6 points.
Junior Varsity: Defense Leads the Way
Batesville 19, Triton Central 13 (Dec. 23) The JV Lady Bulldogs celebrated a hard-fought defensive victory on Monday. In a low-scoring, grind-it-out affair, Batesville’s defense was the story, holding Triton Central to just 13 points.
Offensively, Addysin Hughes was nothing short of phenomenal. She led all scorers with 10 points, shooting a perfect 100% from the field (3-for-3), including a three-pointer, and going 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs took control in the second half, building an 11-5 lead behind a clutch three-pointer from Hughes. Caitlin Raver provided steady support with 4 points, while Aubrey Kathman and Jersey Trenkamp each added crucial buckets. Bella Watson also contributed a free throw to help Batesville secure the 19-13 win.
East Central 36, Batesville 23 (Dec. 20) Against East Central, the JV squad put up a spirited fight but ultimately fell 36-23. Addysin Hughes once again led the offensive charge with 9 points. Aubrey Kathman added 5 points, while Jersey Trenkamp and Caitlin Raver chipped in 4 and 3 points, respectively.
