Batesville, IN – The Batesville Lady Bulldogs played host to the visiting South Ripley Raiders on Saturday night with a possible Ripley County Tournament matchup on hand.
The game tipped off and it was immediately known that this game very well could be a defensive battle. Only 10 points combined were scored in the first quarter, with the two teams knotted up at 5-5. More of the same went on in the second quarter, with the Bulldog’s hounding defense holding the Lady Raiders to only 3 points. South Ripley’s defense held their own as well. Halftime score, 10-8 in favor of Batesville.
South Ripley quickly turned the tide after halftime, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-10 in the third quarter. It seemed as if fans were in for classic Indiana basketball ending heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, but mainly the final few minutes, was all Bulldogs. Batesville finally found rhythm on the offensive end, out scoring the Raiders 22-5 to end the game.
South Ripley fell just short in the final minutes of the game, but Claire Samples had solid game, scoring 12. Kaiya Rinear followed her in scoring with 8 points, and Lexi Franklin had 4 points.
Batesville pulled away in the fourth quarter thanks to Sophie Gesell’s double-double. She ended the game with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Maddie Haskamp also found herself in the double-digits scoring, adding 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. All stats can be found below!
The Bulldogs will host Seymour tomorrow, 11/26 with the tipoff coming at 7:30 PM. JV game is prior to varsity tipoff. Meanwhile, the Raiders will rest up during the holiday and then get back into the swing of things on Saturday, 11/30 when they travel to East Central.
